Until recently, WWE seemed to be spinning its tires. Stuck in a post-WrestleMania slumber, WWE spent most of April, May, and June doing nothing in terms of building storylines. However, as of late, they’ve been weaving narrative – and not just stories that come and go, but tales that are meant to ride for months.

Enzo and Cass’ break up, Titus Worldwide, the Miz and Maryse’s tensions, and the attempted murder of Braun Strowman all mark WWE’s return to long form storytelling.

Up Next: WWE’s Plans for Kurt Angle and Jason Jordan’s Story Revealed

The magnum opus of 2017 is without question Jason Jordan and Kurt Angle, though. While the first climax of the story may have felt rushed wrestling’s take on the Maury Povich Show may carry us through the rest of the year.

WWE’s ambitious take on the scandalous story has sparked plenty of conversation, fueled by both positive and negative opinions. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin is part of the former.

On a recent episode of his podcast, The Steve Austin Show, Stone Cold sang his praises for WWE and their big angle:

“I like the fact that they are shooting a hell of a big angle. They got a lot of negative response but hey man it was a big-time response seemingly from everybody.”

Nearly any wrestler will testify to the importance of the response – even if it’s a negative one. Stone Cold would continue to roll on the topic by sending compliments to Jason Jordan:

“Big time angle, a lot of rub for the kid. He’s a good-looking guy, read about him when I was coming over here to talk to you on the podcast. Outstanding credentials as an amateur. Could possibly have a bright future ahead of him and if it is done off the back of this angle, more power to the kid, good luck to him”

Stone Cold would conclude his comments with a series of questions. He, like many, think this could lead to a heel program with the newly reunited father and son.

“Is this leading to a betrayal of Kurt’s trust or somebody trying to set him up to oust him from his position? And will it result in Kurt Angle returning to the ring to wrestle at a big-time Pay-Per-View?”

Odds are WWE is building to something bigger. However, don’t bank on this ending with a return to the ring for Angle. All reports coming from WWE sounds like the company is intent on keeping the Olympic Gold Medalist on the sidelines. For Jordan though, he’ll be wrestling plenty. Maybe he turns on Angle. Maybe they turn on everyone together. Regardless, WWE is doing a great job in making sure we stay interested.
