With a large chunk of the cast of TV's The Exorcist departing the series, the FOX show beefed up their ensemble with the additions of Star Trek's John Cho and Deadpool's Brianna Hildebrand. ComicBook.com recently caught up with the stars at San Diego Comic-Con to discuss the details of their characters and what excited them about joining the show, which you can see above.
The second season's synopsis is as follows:
"Season 2 picks up with Father Tomas Ortega (Alfonso Herrera) and a newly collarless Marcus Keane (Ben Daniels) out of Chicago and on the road, searching out evil. Across the Atlantic, Father Bennett (Kurt Egyiawan) attempts to weed out those within the Vatican who have turned against God. Ultimately, Tomas and Marcus are led to Andrew Kim (John Cho), a former child psychologist who runs a group home for five at-risk foster children on a secluded private island off the coast of Seattle. When one of the children under Andrew's care is targeted by a powerful force, the two priests head west, setting themselves on a collision course with hell."
Of her character, Hildebrand revealed, "I play a character named 'Verity,' she's the oldest of the foster children. She's on the verge of turning 18, she's on the verge of being out alone, by herself, no longer in the system."
Cho continues, "We're out on an island off the coast of Seattle. I'm a child psychologist who is minus a wife. She recently passed. I'm trying to keep this family together, alone, on this island, and supernatural forces are going to make that difficult." He added, "I'm excited to be in this family dynamic, it's something I haven't done before, on film, or on pixel, and I haven't been in this genre before."
While noting that there were multiple elements that caused Cho to take on the project, he detailed one specifically, "I hadn't seen Asians in horror. I thought that might be an interesting element to bring to it. This show is already pretty multi-cultural, but, personally, it was one of the reasons I got a kick out of the idea and said yes."0comments
"My favorite thing was working with all of the blood and the gore and prosthetics, it was super fun," Hildebrand revealed, having recently starred in the horror-comedy Tragedy Girls. "I'm super excited to get into this and start filming and see where it takes us."
The Exorcist premieres on FOX on Friday, September 29 at 9:00 PM ET.
