With many of the first season’s cast departing The Exorcist for the upcoming season, one of the latest additions to fill the void in the supernatural story is Brianna Hildebrand, who starred as Negasonic Teenage Warhead in last year’s Deadpool. Hildebrand will be the female lead of the new season, starring alongside John Cho‘s lead male role.
The upcoming season’s synopsis, according to Deadline, is as follows:

“Season 2 picks up with Father Tomas Ortega (Alfonso Herrera) and a newly collarless Marcus Keane (Ben Daniels) out of Chicago and on the road, searching out evil. Across the Atlantic, Father Bennett (Kurt Egyiawan) attempts to weed out those within the Vatican who have turned against God. Ultimately, Tomas and Marcus are led to Andrew Kim (Cho), a former child psychologist who runs a group home for five at-risk foster children on a secluded private island off the coast of Seattle. When one of the children under Andrew’s care is targeted by a powerful force, the two priests head west, setting themselves on a collision course with hell.”
Hildebrand will play Verity, one of Kim’s foster children. Deadline reports the character is “close to 18 years old, her time in the house is coming to an end. Her tough exterior makes it seem as if she doesn’t care, when in reality, she would die for her siblings and Andrew.”
UP NEXT: John Cho Joins ‘The Exorcist’ Season 2 As Series Regular
The first season of The Exorcist was one of the surprise horror hits of the year, an adaptation of William Peter Blatty’s novel of the same name. Despite the early episodes of the series perplexing viewers about how it connected to the novel or series of popular films, the show revealed that it continued the story of the first film’s main character Regan.
Last month, the show officially received a renewal from FOX, but series stars Geena Davis, Alan Ruck, Hannah Kasulka and Brianne Howey were not expected to return. With their characters having been the target of demonic threats in the first season, ultimately finding peace, the show instead will tell the stories of the religious leaders who helped rid the family of horrible spirits.

In addition to joining The Exorcist, Hildebrand will appear in Deadpool 2, potentially with a larger role. The actress is set to attend next week’s San Diego Comic-Con, which will give the actress her official induction into the horror TV series.
Season 2 of The Exorcist is set to premiere on FOX on Friday, September 29 at 9:00 PM ET.
