'Teletubbies' Actress That Played Sun Baby is Now About to Become a Mother

The Sun Baby on 'Teletubbies' having a baby is enough to make anyone feel old.

The Sun Baby from Teletubbies is having a baby. Yes, you read that right. E! News reports that Jess Smith, who portrayed the giggly and happy sun as a baby on the children's series, is expecting her first child with partner Ricky Latham. The actress shared the happy news on Instagram, along with a picture of the ultrasound picture with the caption, "When two becomes three," with a pink heart emoji.

While Smith initially kept her identity a secret, she came forward in 2014. In 2021, she reflected on what had happened since telling everyone, noting she's been to a "number of premiers. Taught a dance routine to a group of kids at a screening of the new series. Met a bunch of celebrities. Appeared on lots of recording sets. Been taken to Germany for a tv show. And loads, loads more." She thanked everyone for their support "and guidance" as she's gotten used to the attention. Or tried to.

Teletubbies initially ran on BBC Two in the UK from 1997 to 2001. It aired on PBS Kids in the U.S. from 1998 to 2008. A revival series aired from 2015 to 2018 and still remains a beloved series to this day. It's weird to think about the Sun Baby having her own baby, even though everyone who watched it when they were younger are literally all in their 20s and 30s. Jess Smith will definitely have to show her baby Teletubbies and see if they recognize their mom. Maybe they can be the next Sun Baby in Netflix's reboot, if they ever need another one.

It definitely seems hard being a child star and only being known for one thing. However, sometimes, that one thing has made an impact on more people than you can imagine. Millions of kids watched Teletubbies, and more kids are still being introduced to it. Now that kids from the era of Teletubbies having kids, they can introduce their little ones to the show they watched when they were younger. Now, Smith can do the same thing. Only, it won't be a show she watched, but a show she was on.
