Patrick Dempsey is set to return to television with a starring role in a freshly ordered murder drama on Epix, Variety reports.

Based on Joel Dicker's 2012 novel The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair, the MGM Television show will also star Damon Wayans Jr. and Virginia Madsen.

Dempsey will play the main character, a literary icon who is indicted for murder after the body of a young girl is found on his property. Wayans will play the detective on the case and Madsen stars as a local diner owner.

"Joel Dicker's exquisite thriller has captivated a worldwide audience with its complicated tale of love and lies. I am thrilled that this first class ensemble cast led by Patrick Dempsey and the incomparable director Jean-Jacques Annaud, get to bring provocative page-turner to life," said Steve Stark, MGM's president of television production and development.

Dempsey was last seen on the small screen as Derek Shepherd on Grey's Anatomy before his character was killed off the ABC drama in 2015. While this new thriller is a short, 10-episode limited series, fans will likely be happy to see McDreamy back on their screens.

The series will be directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud and executive produced by Annaud, Lyn Greene and Richard Levine, who wrote the pilot and several episodes, Tarak Ben Ammar and Fabio Conversi.

"It is a rich and nuanced novel set in a small New-England town and has all the elements for a classic mystery," Annaud said. "Having MGM, Tarak and Fabio as my partners has given me the ability to assemble a formidable cast and a talented crew. Their enthusiasm for 'Harry Quebert' is equal to my own."
