After ending Season 12 on a major cliffhanger, Criminal Minds is bringing in some extra support.
It was recently announced that Daniel Henney would be a series regular in Season 13 of Criminal Minds, reprising his role of Agent Matt Simmons from the cancelled spin-off series, Beyond Borders.

Fans had wondered how Simmons would fit in to the series, but executive producer Erica Messer has now cleared up the confusion. Along with unveiling the first look at Simmons on the show, Messer told EW that the character will get right to work in the season premiere.
“Garcia [Kirsten Vangsness] has just learned that her team is in trouble. And the first person she calls is Agent Simmons,” Messer said. “He drives them to the site of the last know signal from the team. They discover this horrific car accident. Once they see who is injured, they discover that someone is missing.”
While Messer didn’t reveal who was missing, she did note that Simmons and Garcia would be working together for most of the episode to find them. The EP also went on to explain that Henney would be the only addition to the team this season.
In addition to his team-up photo with Garcia, another image of Agent Simmons was released. Although he’s flying solo here, Simmons is hot on the trail of the infamous Criminal Minds villain, Mr. Scratch.
Criminal Minds will return to CBS for its 13th season on Wednesday, September 27.
