The Carmichael Show is known for covering controversial topics, but this week's episode may raise the bar.

According to Deadline, this Wednesday's episode of the show will center around a shooting at a local mall.

The episode was scheduled to air two weeks ago, on June 14, but it was swapped out for a different episode due to the news that week. Titled 'Shoot-up-able", the season three episode was ready to be released when a gunman opened fire on a baseball field in Arlington, VA. NBC ran a different episode in its place.

Now, two weeks removed from the situation, NBC is going forward with the episode. This should come as no surprise, as The Carmichael Show has made its mark by covering extremely controversial topics. Last week's episode focused on the N-word, which it used six times over the 30 minutes it was on the air.

After being pulled, creator/star Jerrod Carmichael advocated for NBC to release the episode in the future. While appearing on Netflix's Chelsea, Carmichael said is would be wrong to keep the episode off the air.

"I understand a corporation making that decision, but really, to me, what it says is that you don't think America is smart enough to handle real dialogue and something that reflects… something that feels honest and true and still respects the victims," Carmichael said. "We handled the episode with as much love and integrity as we possibly could, but to pull [it] is just criminal."

In this week's episode, Jerrod comes home after being at a mall where a shooting took place. The official synopsis states, "He fights being coddled by his family and being labeled a victim, but things are made harder when he's forced to tell a police officer exactly what he saw."

"Shoot-up-able" will air on Wednesday, June 28, at 9pm ET on NBC.
