Here Are the Shows on NBC’s Revival Wish List

Revivals of favorite television shows are hot right now. In addition to CBS’s Hawaii Five-O and the upcoming Dynasty reboot on The CW, both ABC and NBC are taking on revivals of beloved television series, such as Roseanne and Will & Grace.

And earlier this week, NBC announced they are developing a Miami Vice reboot for 2018’s fall season, starring Vin Diesel.

But what other beloved television shows might be interesting to see back on the small screen? While there are no concrete plans in place for additional reboots, Deadline reports that NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt did mention a few shows he wouldn’t mind bringing back.

Here are the four NBC shows on Greenblatt’s revival wish list.

The Office

The most-buzzed about potential revival may be The Office. Rumors abound that NBC would like to bring back the Emmy-winning comedy complete with Greg Daniels — who developed and ran the U.S. version of the British television series — running the show with a new cast. However, despite the buzz, Greenblatt didn’t indicate that there’s anything currently in the works.

“We often talk about The Office. I’ve talked to Greg four times over the past few years. It’s always, ‘maybe someday but not now,’” Greenblatt said. “There is certainly an open invitation but we don’t have anything happening right now. If he wants to do it, I would do it.” 

The Office ran for nine seasons between 2005 and 2013 on NBC.

30 Rock

Another show on Greenblatt’s list is 30 Rock. Created by and starring Tina Fey, 30 Rock ran for seven seasons on NBC between 2006 and 2013. The satirical comedy won multiple Emmy awards during its run and while there’s interest in reviving the series, Greenblatt says it just might not be the right time to bring back the series that also starred Alec Baldwin and Tracy Morgan.

“I’d say to Tina ‘Hey, you think some more 30 Rock makes any sense?’ She’d say, I don’t know, maybe.’”

The West Wing

Another series on the wish list is The West Wing. NBC is currently working with the show’s creator, Aaron Sorkin, on a live production of A Few Good Men, but according to Greenblatt, Sorkin isn’t ready to revisit the White House just yet.

“I keep saying to him [Sorkin,] ‘Do you want to do The West Wing again, wouldn’t it be great to do it?’ He says, ‘You know I love that show and someday I’d love to revisit it, but it’s not going to happen right now.’”

The West Wing ran for seven years between 1999 and 2006 on NBC and ended with President Josiah Bartlet, played by Martin Sheen, leaving office at the end of his second term.

ER

The last show on Greenblatt’s revival wish list is the medical drama ER. The series ran for 15 seasons from 1994 to 2009, airing 331 episodes and racking up 23 Emmy Awards during its run. While Greenblatt has mentioned a revival to ER executive producer John Wells there are no official plans to bring back the popular drama series. Greenblatt told Deadline that “there is nothing concrete” in regard to rebooting the series.

Despite not having any firm plans to bring back ER or any of the other series on the list at this time, Greenblatt is still excited about the idea of bringing back the familiar shows.

“We’re not thinking anything beyond Miami Vice … but if Tina called and said, ‘I’d do 30 Rock,’ I’d do it in a heartbeat, even for a limited run.”
