Alabama’s special U.S. Senate election ended with Democrat Doug Jones pulling off the upset, defeating former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore. Celebrities celebrated the victory, which gave Alabama its first Democratic Senator in over two decades.
The election dominated national headlines for weeks after Moore was accused of sexually abusing teenagers. Still, President Donald Trump continued to endorse Moore.

According to the preliminary results posted at AL.com, Jones won with 50 percent of the vote and just over 602,000 votes. Moore earned 49 percent, with over 592,000 votes. The remaining two percent went to write-in candidates.
The seat opened up after Trump named Jeff Sessions his Attorney General. Sessions’ interim replacement, Luther Strange, lost to Moore in the Republican primary.
Here are how celebrities responded to Moore’s defeat and Jones’ win.
I can’t remember the last time I cried tears of joy. Alabama, thank you. Thank you for taking a stand against violence towards women and children. The kind of leaders we want in our country is clear. ๐
