Netflix’s Narcos started out as the story of Pablo Escobar’s rise to the level of cocaine kingpin in 1970s-1980s Columbia. However, when season 2 ended with the death of Escobar, it seemed like the story was over. Except, it isn’t over yet.
In Escobar’s final days, he was at war with infamous Cali Cartel, who chose to run their empire like a business, unterrupted by the drama and violence that Escobar causesd. As season 3 begins, The Cali Cartel has filled the void of power Escobar left behind, but the Columbian police – with help from DEA agent Javier Peรฑa (Pedro Pascal) – are letting the cartel run amok, unopposed.

Between the cops vs. narcos battle, and rival cartels and gangs looking to grab their own pieces of the pie, thinks once again turn bloody in the beautiful country of Columbia.
As you can see in the trailer above, Narcos season 3 will be something of a reboot, in the sense that a new chapter is starting, where major characters from the first story arc (like Boyd Holbrook’s Agent Murphy) won’t be present. In fact, having Peรฑa take over as the main character will be a major gear shift, for some viewers.
Narcos season 3 premieres on Netflix on September 1st.
