All of Adam Sander’s Netflix films have been fairly close to what most fans expect from the comedian, but this new one, The Meyerowitz Stories, comes across decidedly different.
The film is described as being about “estranged siblings” who “gather in New York to celebrate their father’s work as an artist.”

In addition to Sandler, the film also stars Ben Stiller (Zoolander), Emma Thompson (Love Actually) and Dustin Hoffman (I Heart Huckabees).
Fully titled The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected), the film was written and directed by Noah Baumbach, who also wrote and directed The Squid and the Whale, as well as co-wrote The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, with director Wes Anderson.
Sandler is not new to the “dramedy” genre, as he proved he can shine as a serious actor in films like Funny People, Spanglish, and, most notably, Punch-Drunk Love.
While The Meyerowitz Stories has yet to be released for fans to see, many critics who have seen the film agree that it may be the best project Sandler has ever done.
A few years ago, Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison, struck a deal with Netflix to produce five original films to be available exclusively on the streaming giant’s subscription service.
However, The Meyerowitz Stories isn’t a film under that specific deal. It’s just a movie that Sandler stars in that Netflix happened to buy the viewing rights for.
Currently, the films that fall under the Netflix/Happy Madison deal are The Ridiculous 6 (2015), The Do-Over (2016) and Sandy Wexler (2017).
The final two films of the deal โ The Week Of and Who Do You Think Will Win? โ are scheduled to be released next year.
The Meyerowitz Stories will drop on Netflix on October 13th.
