Patrick Mahomes Looking to Own NFL Team After Retirement

Patrick Mahomes wants to be like Tom Brady and own multiple teams in different sports.

Patrick Mahomes knows what he wants to do after he announces his retirement from the NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback told reporters last week that he wants to own and NFL team once he's done playing football. Mahomes said this after buying into the ownership group of the Alpine Formula 1 race team.

"Eventually, when I'm done playing," Mahomes said, per ESPN. "I think Tom [Brady] is trying to do it right now, but that's definitely where you want to get to. I love this sport and want to give back in any way possible. When I'm done playing, obviously I'll be a Chiefs fan, but at the same time I want to have that competitive edge I've always had my entire life."

Mahomes also said that being an NFL owner can be challenging, so he would look into buying into other sports. "I'm always looking around," he said. "I can't do it in the NFL while I'm playing, so I'm always looking around at other sports. It's hard to get in all sports, NBA and all that different type of stuff, but I'm always keeping my ears open. If they give me the opportunity, I'm going to jump at it."

Earlier this year, it was reported that Brady is becoming the minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, but the NFL has not approved the purchase yet. In June, Brady explained why he wanted to be part of the Raiders ownership team. "I grew up in the Bay Area. My favorite team was the 49ers. The team across the bay was the Raiders," Brady explained. "And, you know, they're an iconic NFL franchise. When I look at a lot of the people that have impacted the NFL over a long period of time in the most positive way, (former Raiders owner and GM) Al Davis is one of them. And he's not with us anymore but I've heard incredible stories. And then the opportunity came about to become a minority owner in the Raiders, it was a dream come true for me." Along with the Raiders, Brady became a minority owner of the Las Vegas Aces of the WNBA. He also invested in the soccer team Birmingham City.
