Warren Beatty had the honor of announcing the Best Picture winner, but that honor quickly became a bit of a nightmare when he and Faye Dunaway were handed the Best Actress envelope instead. As soon as the flub happened, the Internet began to react, including Beatty’s son Stephen Ira.
He took to Twitter to defend his dad and praise the way he had handled the situation.

As soon as Beatty opened the envelope it was clear something was awry.
“I want to tell you what happened,” Beatty explained onstage after the error became clear. “I opened the envelope and it said, ‘Emma Stone, La La Land.’ That’s why I took such a long look at Faye and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny.”
Fortunately, Jimmy Kimmel was standing by to lighten the mood.
“Guys, this is very unfortunate what happened. Personally, I blame Steve Harvey for this. I would like to see you get an Oscar anyway โ why can’t we just give out a whole bunch of them?” he quipped.

I think it was just a mix up! Mistakes happen, especially in a live show. https://t.co/fCRyKJYCoa
