For a new Shanghai Noon sequel, Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess has been tapped to helm the project. The upcoming third installment to MGM’s action comedy series will be titled Shanghai Dawn, following 2000’s Shanghai Noon and 2003’s Shanghai Knights.
Owen Wilson (47) and Jackie Chan (62) are currently in negotiations to reprise their roles as Roy O’Bannon and Chon Wang, respectively.

Jared Hess’ most recent work includes the release of his long-delayed comedy Masterminds starring Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Jason Sudeikis, Zach Galifianakis, and Owen Wilson.
The plotline of Shanghai Noon followed the a Chinese man (Chan) who teams up with an outlaw (Wilson) in order to save a princess. The 2000 film was a unexpected box office success, which led to a sequel three years later set in London. Details of the storyline for Shanghai Dawn have bee kept under wraps, but we do know the script was penned by Theodore Riley and Aaron Buchsbaum.
Shanghai Dawn will be produced by Spyglass Entertainment, with Miles Millar and Alfred Gough set to take on the roles of executive producers. Millar and Gough penned the script for the first two installments to the series.
