Game of Thrones has won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series.
Considering Game of Thrones was up against The Americans, House Of Cards, Downton Abbey, Better Call Saul, Mr. Robot and Homeland, it was a major win for the show. This is the show’s second consecutive win and has accrued 23 nomination this year alone. According to TV Guide, the show was just two awards away from breaking the record of most awared show in one year – the current record holder is John Adams. Overall, the series has 106 nods over the course of its six seasons.

During the speech, the showrunners thanked the author of the original series.
“We are standing up here becasue George R.R. Martin created the world we all live and play in,” they said.
To accomodate a winter filming schedule, the showrunners recently announced that season seven of GoT won’t be returning until later in 2017. This means that the series won’t be eligable for the 2017 Emmys, so it’s competition will have a chance to take home a couple trohpies. However, with each season getting better and better than the season before, the 2018 Emmys might just see a record break.
There are only two season left for Game of Thrones, with the next season hitting the air in the summer of 2017.
