Now that 2016 is over, there are only a few days remaining before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. But before his inauguration, President Obama took the stage in Chicago to say his farewells to America as President.
While addressing the nation for one last time, the President wanted to remind everyone that it is up to the people, not the president, to uphold the values of our country. What’s more, that people should continue to be politically engaged so political conversations can still happen, even if everyone doesn’t agree. He wanted to remind Americans that dividing people based on backgrounds, color, sexuality, and religion is harmful to everyone.

Most importantly, he wanted to share his accomplishments of his administration – no foreign terrorist attack on US soil, more Americans with health insurance, legalizing same-sex marriage, killing Osama bin Laden – and remind everyone that it wasn’t just him, he didn’t do it alone. President Obama’s achievements in his eight years were thanks to the Americans who helped him get there in the first place.
“Yes we can. Yes we did. Yes we can.”
Many people have taken to Twitter to express their gratitude for the President, as well as mourn his stepping down. Here are how a few celebrities oare reacting to his farewell speech.
