The Church of Scientology has been a huge subject of discussion recently after King of Queens actress Leah Remini’s documentary totally blasted the organization.

While Remini may not be buying into the religion anymore, there is a slew of other celebrities that are devout members of the Church. Everybody knows that Missions Impossible: Rogue Nation star Tom Cruise is the poster boy for Scientology, but there may be several Hollywood stars that you likely had no idea were Scientologists.

Giovanni Ribisi

Avatar star Giovanni Ribisi is an active Scientologist. He has been outspoken in defending the church. The actor once shut down questions about “aliens” in the Church by saying: “I have never ever heard of aliens in Scientology, and I’ve been a Scientologist all my life.”

 

Elisabeth Moss

Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss is a Scientologist and she has been complimentary of the impact that the Church has had on her.

“I think that’s a good way of saying it, because there is so much focus on the, I guess, empowerment, and, sort of, respecting yourself, and yourself as an individual,” Moss said about the effect of Scientology. “It’s a better you, not necessarily changing who you are.”

 

Beck

Grammy-winning musician Beck kept quiet about his involvement in the Church of Scientology up until 2005. Both of his parents are Scientologists and Beck once told New York mag, “It’s just something that I’ve been around.”

 

Laura Prepon

Orange is the New Black actress Laura Prepon has been involved with the Church of Scientology for almost 20 years now.

“I’ve been a Scientologist since 1999 and I’ve never come across any piece of info that’s negative or derogatory towards the LGBT community,” Prepon once said. “It’s just so funny that, when people don’t know, they just make stuff up, [like], apparently I’m dating Tom Cruise right now.”

 

Danny Masterson

That 70’s Show star Danny masterson is a Scientologist and once defended the religion’s founder, L. Ron Hubbard, while speaking to Paper magazine.

“He’s a f**king guy who wrote awesome sh*t that I love studying,” Masterson said. “That’s who he is…No one in Scientology think he’s a Messiah.”

 

Juliette Lewis

Juliette Lewis has been an active member of the Church, and has defended Scientology in the media on multiple occasions.

“The thing about Scientology is it is anti-drug in that you’re seeking relationship or communication tools – simple basics on how to live better,” she once said.

 

John Travolta

John Travolta is a celebrity that has been associated with Scientology almost as much as Tom Cruise. While he has remained a member of the Church, an HBO documentary claimed that the Pulp Fiction star is actually “Scientology’s captive.”

“There were rumors that he was threatening to leave,” New Yorker writer Lawrence Wright said. “And another Scientologist told me that he was delegated to create a ‘black pr’ package – all the damaging material that they could use against Travolta, which came from his auditing sessions.”

 

Kirstie Alley

Drop Dead Gorgeous star Kirstie Alley is a practicing Scientologist and has defended her beliefs in public several times. 

The 66-year-old actress once explained to Howard Stern that she reached the highest level in the Church’s hierarchy of achievements. “It means that you have gotten rid of all the things that would create aberrated behavior in you that you didn’t want,” she said. “It’s an awareness level. It’s an achievement.”
