While images of war and suffering can easily turn into a blur on the news, this image of a tiny Syrian boy that survived an airstrike can put into perspective the horror that has been taking place in his home country. The photo was taken on Wednesday night in the rebel-held eastern suburbs of Aleppo, according to ABC.

After being pulled from the rubble, five-year-old Omran Daqneesh sits dazed in the back of an ambulance. He sits alone, looking lost as he wipes his dusty forehead and realizes his hand is covered in blood.

The doctors who treated Omran reported that he had head wounds and has since been discharged from the M10 hospital. Omran's parents have not been located as of yet, and the doctors said that he was brought to the hospital by four young men.

The Aleppo Media Centre captured the heartbreaking moment as Omran was rescued by the volunteers from Syria Civil Defense group known as the White Helmets. He was saved alongside three other small children from the rubble of a house after an air strike.

The 2 minute video below shows the shockingly sad incident...

The video was shared only days after a group of doctors sent a letter to President Obama requesting aid for the civilians who are trapped in the dangerous area. The letter reads, "We do not need tears or sympathy or even prayers. We need your action."

Unfortunately this pictures only is only a glimpse into the horror that has befallen the country, and Omran is only one of thousands of children caught in the middle of the Syrian war.
