Former One Direction band member Zayn Malik is joining forces with Law & Order creator Dick Wolf to develop a scripted series inspired by his own experiences of being in a boy band.

The upcoming show, titled Boys, will chronicle the story of a boy band coming together and launching into global stardom. The series will capture all of the fun, competition, and excitement, as well as the pressures, of being in a highly successful boy band.

"Dick Wolf is a legend and the opportunity to work with him and NBC to create a compelling drama series is awesome," Malik stated.

The script will be penned by CW's Beauty and the Beast co-creators, Sherri Cooper Landsman and Jennifer Levin.

The project marks different thematic territory for Noelle Wolf, who first brought Boys to NBC, as the series will have a much lighter tone than that of the other shows she is involved in including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit or Chicago. Wolf stated to Variety: "We were intrigued by the synergistic potential that Zayn brings to the project. Boys will be a show that's totally integrated on broadcast and digital platforms. Casting and original music will be major components, giving the show promotional potential on multiple levels."

The President of NBC Entertainment, Jennifer Salke, also weighed in on the forthcoming series stating: "It's exciting to be diving into this project with such passionate and prolific producers. Zayn certainly brings an authentic point of view to this world where kids are catapulted into fame at a dizzying speed. On top of our excitement around the creative ideas being discussed, we have a lot of respect for the musical and digital ambitions behind the project."

Zayn Malik first rose to pop superstar status after appearing on The X Factor in the U.K. alongside his One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson. In March of 2015, he ditched the band in order to pursue a solo career. His highest chart-topping release from his solo debut was "Pillow Talk," which debuted at No. 1 in the U.K. and the United States.

Do you look forward to watching this new NBC series from Zayn Malik and Dick Wolf?
