Thanks to superstars like Hulk Hogan and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, the world of wrestling has become a stepping stone for many athletes to catapult into becoming some of the most sought-after performers in Hollywood. Seth Rollins is the next such WWE athlete to break into the world of movies, starring alongside Wesley Snipes in Armed Response. Check out the new trailer for the action-thriller above!

The film's synopsis is as follows:

"A team of special forces soldiers approach the designer of a high-tech military compound to investigate the disappearance of another team guarding the facility. The compound, known professionally as a Temple, is an artificial intelligence powered facility designed for interrogating high level prisoners. Upon entering the Temple, the soldiers quickly find the earlier team horrifically slaughtered but no evidence as to who is responsible.

"Almost immediately, the crew begins to experience strange and horrific supernatural phenomena as they attempt to uncover who killed the previous team. Soon enough, they find a lone survivor, a dangerous terrorist who may hold the key to who killed the soldiers. But as the story goes on, we'll learn that there's more to it than we've been told and a dark secret the soldiers share may hold the key to surviving The Temple."

Armed Response stars Wesley Snipes, Anne Heche, Dave Annable, and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins.

The few glimpses we get of the carnage on display in the film looks like it will appease devout horror fans, as its premise incorporating elements of the supernatural will surely play on some of our worst fears.

Additionally, advances in technology and exactly what machines are capable of have a deep connection to horror and science fiction, with HAL 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey and Ash in Alien being some of the most effective interpretations of the terrors of science.

Seth Rollins isn't the only wrestler to recently delve into the world of horror, with Luke Harper starring in the colonial horror movie Mohawk.

Back in 2002, WWE started a new branch that focused on making films, WWE Studios, producing a variety films starring their talent. The films focused mostly on action and horror, including films like See No Evil, The Marine, and The Condemned.

Another seminal wrestler with a deep history in horror films is "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, who starred in the John Carpenter masterpiece They Live as well as the much more campy Hell Comes to Frogtown.

Armed Response will open in select theaters and on VOD August 4.
