On Wednesday night, Chrissy Metz was about to enter The London hotel in NYC when TMZ asked her a question and her response was gold.
The reporter asked if she thinks viewers of This Is Us are inspired or upset about Kate's failure to lose weight.
"I don't think that she's [Kate's] failed at losing weight," Chrissy said. "I just think that she has to make it more of a concerted effort and that's what she's trying to do."
Her character's weight-loss journey is not meant to discourage anyone, it's supposed to be inspiring. "I think it inspires people because we're all on different journeys and we all progress differently," she said. "So, when we're all in it together, it's a little more inspiring in that way."
Kate's weight-loss journey on This Is Us has been a topic throughout the season. After a couple episodes, Kate considered getting gastric bypass surgery, but instead attends a weight-loss immersion camp.
Although the actress is currently feeling comfortable in her own skin, it wasn't always easy for her. She suffered a major health scare a few years ago that motivated her to take control of her body. She lost 100 pounds in less than five months.
Her main goal was to get to a place where she can accept who she is and has done just that. Metz even got herself a new man, Josh Stancil, who is a cameraman on This Is Us. The couple went public at the 2017 SAG Awards party in January.
In addition to Chrissy's motivational message, she also stands up for other women against body shamers. The 36-year-old actress was recently on an episode of Sirius XM's Just Jenny and spoke about the criticism Lady Gaga received after her Super Bowl LI halftime show.
"That made me bonkers, bananas crazy. How is someone fat if they're not fat?" Metz began. "I wanna see somebody else get on that damn stage and do what the hell she did."
Metz explained that she does not believe the body shaming had anything to do with Lady Gaga.
"What the core of the issue is is that we project all of our stuff and our crap on other people," she said. "If we're really, really genuinely happy with ourselves and we love ourselves, you can't talk s— about other people. You can't be hateful because you love yourself."
She also spoke out about recent criticism Kesha has received and told people to "leave her alone." She added, "If she's healthy, who cares?"
