Police Say New Video Supports Venus Williams In Fatal Car Crash Incident

Last week, news broke that sports star Venus Williams had been involved in a fatal car accident, and now police are saying that video of the crash supports her.

Williams claimed that she did nothing illegal to cause the accident, and Florida law enforcement says that they've reviewed footage from a nearby surveillance camera that caught the whole thing, per a story by the Daily News.

After investigating it fully, the police believe that the footage does support Williams' claims that she acted as responsibly as possible.

In a police report released recently, it was revealed that Williams had been deemed "at fault" in the fatal car accident earlier this month.

On June 9th, Williams ran through an intersection and t-boned a car carrying 78-year-old Jerome Barson and his wife.

The accident put Jerome in the intensive care unit of the hospital and on June 25th he passed away due to the injuries he suffered.

His wife, who was apparently driving, described the accident and said that Williams abruptly entered the intersection they were at and she didn't have time to stop before the athlete slammed into their car.

The police report read, "(Williams) is at fault for violating the right of way of (the other driver)."

Also according to the report, 37-year-old Williams placed the blame for the crash on a heavy flow of traffic that forced her to jump out into the intersection.

This new evidence definitely changes the direction of the investigation. Williams could potentially be deemed not a fault before it's closed.

After the initial police report was made public, Malcolm Cunningham, Williams' attorney released a statement, saying, "Ms. Williams entered the intersection on a green light. The police report estimates that Ms. Williams was traveling at 5 mph when Mrs. Barson crashed into her. Authorities did not issue Ms. Williams with any citations or traffic violations."

Cunningham went on to say that the incident was "an unfortunate accident and Venus expresses her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one."

Jerome Barson's wife was hospitalized for injuries as well, including some broken bones, but law enforcement didn't specify any more than that.

Currently, Williams is not facing any charges, however, Palm Beach Gardens law enforcement said the accident remains under investigation.

Additionally, police also said there was no evidence that Williams was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. They also said she was not believed to be distracted by a cell phone or electronic device
