The 77-year-old actor has been described by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan as “one of the finest actors alive, regardless of whether the role requires him to speak or remain silent in a wheelchair, ringing a bell.”

Most recently, Margolis’ name was removed from the Emmys Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series ballot due to the fact that he had appeared in five of the 10 episodes of the last season of the show. This rendered him ineligible for the award, but it is too late for AMC to submit his name for Best Supporting Actor category, Metro reports.

A TV Academy spokesperson said, “There was an error in AMC’s entry submission, and pursuant to 69th Emmy Awards rules, this entry will be disqualified. Had this not been brought to the Academy’s attention now, it would have surfaced after the Nomination Round votes are tallied, during the vetting of all nominees prior to the announcement on July 13.”

After having a featured role on AMC’s wildly popular series Breaking Bad, Margolis went on to reprise his role as “Tio” on the spinoff show Better Call Saul. Last month, the show was renewed for a fourth season.

Season 3 follows the twists and turns of Jimmy McGill’s devolution toward Breaking Bad’s Saul Goodman โ€” Albuquerque’s most notorious criminal lawyer. Six years before he meets Walter White, Jimmy is a more-or-less law-abiding, small-time attorney hustling to champion his underdog clients, build his practice, and somehow make a name for himself.

Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan helmed Season 3, alongside fellow executive producers Mark Johnson, Melissa Bernstein, Thomas Schnauz, and Gennifer Hutchison. The second season of Better Call Saul, one of the highest-rated dramas on cable, garnered seven Emmy Award nominations and three Critics’ Choice Award nominations.

The series has also been recognized with an AFI Award for TV Program of the Year, a Writers Guild Award, and numerous award nominations from the Writers Guild, Producers Guild, Golden Globes, and Television Critics Association.

Co-created by Gilligan and Gould, the series stars Bob Odenkirk, as well as Jonathan Banks, Michael McKean, Rhea Seehorn, Patrick Fabian, Michael Mando, and Giancarlo Esposito.
