King's Landing
The Night King was once a man, so he must know that the throne which controls men is located in King's Landing. If he wants to take away the head of the beast, that's where he'd go first.
However, the difficult part about this plan remains with the Night King's overall motives.
Everyone who the leader of the dead has interacted with on the show has been in the north. He's fought against the men of the Night's Watch, the wildlings, and most recently Jon Stark's men. He's also had some run-ins with Bran.
None of his enemies so far would lead him to believe that the power lies in King's Landing. Those wishing to kill him, and those who know how, are mostly in the north. Wouldn't he want to kill them first?
prevnextWinterfell
While Winterfell as a geographic location may not be of any interest to the Night King, there is someone who currently resides there who he does want to get his hands on.
As the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran has had a couple of interactions with the Night King. At one point, it caused the evil leader to mark him, and the two have had an even closer bond since.
The wights have tried to kill Bran on multiple occasions, after killing the Three-Eyed Raven that preceded him. Is the Night King's main goal to take out the Raven?
If this is the case, Bran's existence in Winterfell could actually be a bad thing for the people of Westeros. Perhaps staying above the wall could've bought Jon and his crew a little more time to prepare for war.
prevnextIt Doesn't Matter
Perhaps the Night King has no destination in mind for his chaos. There's a good chance he's just attacking the world in no particular order.
We don't know the Night King's purpose. Maybe that's because he doesn't exactly have one.
The White Walkers were created to kill men and nothing more, according to the Children of the Forest. They were being slaughtered by the armies of men and needed something to even the odds. Thus, the White Walkers were born.
Destruction of man could be all the Night King has ever know. If that's the case, it doesn't really matter where he goes next. He's just trying to find anyone willing to get in his way.
