While Aaron Carter was “shocked” to receive an outpouring of support from his fans after revealing he was attracted to both men and women, the 29-year-old singer says that he didn’t get the same reaction from his ex-girlfriend Madison Parker.
During an interview with The Bert Show, the “Sooner or Later” singer says that Parker didn’t “understand” his sexuality.

“I had discussed [my sexuality] with my ex-girlfriend, and she didn’t really understand it. She didn’t want [to],” he said. “And that was it. So we left it mutual and parted ways.”
Currently, the younger brother of Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter is a “single man.” However, he hopes to change that in the near future.
“To be honest, I’m alone right now, and I would like to have a relationship,” he said. “Sorry, got a little teary-eyed. I just went through a breakup.”
In regards to his next partner, Carter says that it is solely up to his own preferences.
“Whether I should be with a woman or a man is my decision, no one else’s,” he said.
Carter added that his choice to come out as bisexual was a long time coming.
“To be honest, I’ve been thinking about it for years. I just felt like it was something that I needed to do,” he admitted. “It was something that I just felt like was important and I needed to say. It was a part of a new chapter of turning 30, on Dec. 7 this year.”
“The process is at your own pace and is when you feel comfortable,” he said. “There might be a lot of people who don’t agree with it, but you might be surprised by the people who do.”
The news of Carter and Parker’s breakup surfaced on Saturday. His rep gave a statement to announce their split.
“Aaron and Madison love each other and respect one another dearly,” Carter’s rep said. “It was a mutual decision and Aaron’s personal statement released speaks for itself. Now back to the music.”
