Last night’s edition of WWE SmackDown Live was a stacked show. It featured a great opening contest between Kevin Owens and AJ Styles, and the show finished with a dream match between John Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura.

Also on last night’s show, Rusev beat Chad Gable in a bout that showed the sky is the limit for young Mr. Gable. These two had a tremendous match, but in the end, Rusev went over victorious and mused on the microphone about who he could face at SummerSlam that he hasn’t already defeated. Randy Orton answered the call.

All of your wrestling fan friends will be talking about these three great parts of the show, which we covered here at PopCulture last night. But what else went down on SmackDown Live? We’re here to break it all down for you.

Tag Team Talking Points

The top tag teams were relegated to all talk and no wrestling on Tuesday night.

First we had the Usosย come out to the ring and bash the New Day, who were not on the show this week. Jey and Jimmy got in some good lines, asking the fans if they thought they were going to get “three clowns on a tricycle” or “three grown men talking about each other’s popsicles.” They closed the segment saying the New Day is just “three grown men twerking and blowing your own trombones,” which was funny. They said they are coming for the tag team titles.

Then we went to a backstage Fashion Files, which are always hilarious. Tuesday night’s edition was a take on Twin Peaks, with the segment called “Fashion Peaks.” The story this time was that Fandango had been kidnapped 25 years ago, and Tyler had an old (possibly high school) photo of him on the board. He dozed off and dreamt of the Ascensionย walking in with Fandango. Breeze asked if they were helping the kidnappers, since he had ruled them out prior. They began a creepy laugh, which woke up Tyler as he exclaimed that he knows who the kidnappers are. To be continued.ย

Sami Zayn Gets Pushed Down The Card

Oh, Sami Zayn.

One of the brightest stars the company ever had in NXTย lost his match with Aiden English on Tuesday night. Not only that, but the bout only lasted about one minute. English sang for far too long before the match. Samiย worked an armlock at the start and ended up getting rolled up for the pin out of nowhere.

Samiย looked confused afterwards. We are too, Sami.

Afterward, Mike and Maria Kanellisย came out on the stage, microphone in hand, and rubbed in the fact that Samiย lost. Alrighty.ย

The Women’s Story Continues To Progress

The SmackDownย women took part in a tag team match right at the top of hour number two. Becky Lynch and Naomi took on Natalya and Carmella.

It was a brief match, but Natalyaย and Naomi continued to build their heat as they progress toward their championship match at SummerSlam. Halfway through the bout, Natalyaย locked Naomi in the Sharpshooter. She held the hold for a while, once dragging Naomi back to the center of the ring after she tried to get to the ropes. Eventually, Naomi did get a rope break and an audacious Carmella tagged herself in, ordering Natalyaย to get out of the ring.

That wasn’t smart, as Carmella would end up tapping out. First, she applied her Code of Silence head scissors to Naomi, but Naomi countered into a submission of her own for the victory.

A very brief match, but it did what it needed to do in progressing these feuds. Naomi and Carmella will face off next week on SmackDown.
