The writers of South Park decided to tackle the coronavirus pandemic in their latest one-hour special on Wednesday. The episode was the first ever to go for more than 30 minutes as the creators of the show determined it was the right time to do so. This installment also comes as South Park remains in-between seasons, leaving the special as its own standalone.

Comedy Central did plenty of work hyping up the event, even releasing a video the morning of detailing how Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the men behind the series, were able to put this special together. Over South Park‘s 23-year-run, the writers had never attempted to do an episode โ€” the show had previously built their specials into multiple 30-minute episodes โ€” that went more than the usual 30 minutes, making Wednesday’s episode even more special.

With all things considered, fans of the series, and even those who tuned in who may have never seen an episode of the show before, seemed to appreciate the humor and how the writers could bring laughs to an otherwise dark and gloomy situation. Here is a look at some of the most notable reactions found on Twitter after the ‘Pandemic Special’ aired on Comedy Central, MTV and MTV2.
