The pilots are shot, the schedules are in, and it’s time for TV fans wait anxiously until the fall season begins.

Fortunately, this year’s slate of new shows seems well worth the wait.

The upcoming TV season is jam-packed with potentially awesome shows with top talent behind each one. While trailers and industry buzz are never a sure thing, the hype that they’ve built this year is much higher than usual.

The new schedule sees plenty of quirky comedies, intense action programs, and high-octane superhero shows. There’s literally something for each and every one of.

While the slate as a whole seems strong, there are a few projects that stand out among the crowd. A handful of these new shows, for one reason or another, seem like must-watch programs heading into the fall.

Here are five of those shows that you need to be keeping an eye on.

A.P. Bio

Former Weekend Update host Seth Myers teamed up with SNL‘sย head honcho Lorne Michaelsย to create one of the most talked-about new comedies of the season.ย

A.P. Bio tells the story of a former Ivy League professor who gets stuck in a rut, and is forced to teach biology in a public high school. He’s incredibly cynical, and uses the students to help him exact revenge on those who did him wrong.

While the creative team behind this series is definitely a highlight, it’s A.P. Bio‘sย two leading men that steal the spotlight. It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia veteran Glenn Howertonย stars, with Patton Oswaltย backing him up as the high school principal.

The show seems to have all of the qualities that made School of Rock a success, with a cast and crew that can reinvent the magic for a television audience.

S.W.A.T.

Shemarย Moore may have left Criminal Minds, but he’s still making waves for CBS. The veteran actor leads a talented cast in the upcoming S.W.A.T. reboot.

While the property was originally a TV series, it gained even more popularity when made into a film in 2003. The movie starred Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jeremy Renner.

This new reboot is taking a lot from the movie, with Moore portraying the lead character of Hondo, who was played by Jackson in the film.

From the looks of the trailer, this series goes above and beyond many of the other law enforcement programs on television. The action is there, and the plot is just right for our current political and social climate. On top of all that, Moore looks incredibly capable as a leading man.

The Mayor

Of all the new comedies airing this fall, The Mayor easily possesses the most interesting premise.ย

A young and struggling rapper needs publicity to get his music recognized. So, in order to achieve that, he runs for mayor. Much to the artist’s surprise, he actually wins the election.

Newcomer Brandon Michael Hall stole everyone’sย attention during the trailer, and he’s surrounded by a talented veteran cast consisting of Glee star Lea Michele, and Community vet Yvette Nicole Brown.

The Mayor may seem like a political series, but family, friends, and positive vibes remain at the center of it all. There’s no doubt ABCย has hit a homerun with this one.

The Gifted

There has been a flood of superhero shows lately, but not many that center around the X-Men. The only other property containing the Marvel mutants is Legion, on FX, and that became an overnight hit.

While The Gifted is a major departure from Legion, it still looks like another successful X-series.

The Gifted follows a family of four, who are forced on the run when the two high school-age children are outed as mutants. The father, played by Stephen Moyer, made a living hunting down mutants. Now he is forced to protect his own against the company he worked for.

The series already has an exciting premise, rooted in relevant themes, but Fox didn’t stop there. The Gifted included a few major X-Men characters from the comics, including Blink and Polaris.

Casual TV fans and comic book nerds alike will be able to fall in love with The Gifted this fall.

Wisdom Of The Crowd

Most crime proceduralsย struggle to break the mold, but Wisdom of the Crowd looks to have done just that.ย

A tech wiz who attempts to revolutionize crime solving โ€“ specifically the unsolved case of his daughter’s murder โ€“ with a crowdsourcing app that utilizes the public for information.ย

Detective work has been updated to an easy-to-use iPhoneย app, which doesn’t exactly sound far from reality. It’s a terrifying thought, but the shows makes it look like a pretty awesome tool.

Entourage alum Jeremy Pivenย stars in the lead role, and the footage we’ve seen so far proves that he’s still as compelling as ever.ย
