Although 2018 is still more than half a year away, it's never too early to go ahead and start blocking off some time to binge watch some of Netflix's upcoming shows.
The world's most popular streaming service is set to debut a slew of original TV shows in the coming year. With new additions to the company's Marvel series and premieres of multiple brand new shows, 2018 is looking like a thrilling year for Netflix and all of its subscribers. Check out some of the most highly anticipated Netflix originals below:
Lost In Space
Netflix has experienced tremendous success rebooting old shows like Gilmore Girls and Full House. Now the streaming service is looking to revive another classic, Lost In Space.
The synopsis reads: "Stranded light years from their destination, the Robinson family must come together to survive. A new drama series based on the 1960's sci-fi classic."
While the show follows along the same plotline as the original, the new version will put a darker spin on the story as opposed to the comedic vibe of the original. The Lost In Space reboot will star Parker Posey (The House of Yes), Toby Stephens (Die Another Day), Raza Jaffrey (Homeland), and Molly Parker (The Road).
'Alias Grace' and 'Arrested Development'
To compete with Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, Netflix is set to drop Alias Grace, which is also a Margaret Atwood adaptation. The show will be a six-part miniseries based on Atwood's 1996 novel of the same name. The synopsis for the show reads: "A mild-mannered woman convicted of a savage murder in 1840s Canada becomes a young doctor's obsession."
The cast includes Sarah Gadon (Dracula Untold), Edward Holcfrot (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Zachary Levi (Chuck), Kerr Logan (Game of Thrones), and True Blood's Anna Paquin.
Netflix is dropping another season of Arrested Development. The star-studded cast is returning for a fifth season and will possibly deal with President Trump in some capacity.
The series creator Mitchell Hurwitz gave a statement regarding the upcoming season: "In talks with Netflix, we all felt that that stories about a narcissistic, erratically behaving family in the building business — and their desperate abuses of power — are really underrepresented on TV these days."
The production for Season 5 of Arrested Development begins in July of 2017.prevnext
Marvel Shows and More 'Love'
All your favorite Marvel superhero shows are likely to add further installments on Netflix next year. Jessica Jones is expected for season 2 in 2018, which has been a long time coming since it has been three years since the first season of the original series aired on the streaming service.
Daredevil Season 3 and the second season of Luke Cage will premiere next year. Also worth mentioning, Marvel's The Defenders - which will team up the superheroes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist - is debuting in August of this year.
Season 3 of Love will be hitting Netflix in 2018.
The synopsis for the show reads: "Rebellious Mickey and good-natured Gus navigate the thrills and agonies of modern relationships in this bold comedy co-created by Judd Apatow."
The show stars Gillian Jacobs (Community), Paul Rust (Inglourious Basterds), and Claudia O'Doherty (Trainwreck).prevnext
The Brazilian series is a comedy set to debut on Netflix in 2018. Even though you might need to use subtitles to watch the show, it still looks absolutely hilarious.
The synopsis reads: "A child star in the '80s, Samantha clings to the fringes of celebrity with hilarious harebrained schemes to launch herself back into the spotlight."
There's also several other shows coming to Netflix that come from countries that aren't majority English speaking countries. Those series include: Brazilian corruption drama O Mecanismo, Hindi-English crime drama Sacred Games, Korean zombie period piece Kingdom, and dystopian young adult series The Rain, according to Refinery 29.
Most notably, Netflix will be getting its first Australian original in Tidelands. An outline for the plot for the show, which was published by THR, reads: "The drama follows a former criminal as she returns home to the small fishing village of Orphelin Bay. When the body of a local fisherman washes ashore, she must uncover the town's secrets while investigating its strange inhabitants, a group of dangerous half-Sirens, half-humans called Tidelanders."
