Going into the fifth episode Game of Thrones this season, we’ve just passed a major milestone. After years of talking, travelling, and putting together an army, Daenerys Targaryen has finally attacked the forces of Cersei Lannister.
The Mother of Dragons has made her name known across Westeros and in ‘The Spoils of War’, she made it clear that she was only in this part of the country to take back what’s rightfully hers – The Iron Throne.

Now that the first big battle is over, we turn our eyes to ‘Eastwatch’. This next episode will likely begin with the aftermath of the Loot Train Attack, and it will probably reveal exactly what happened to Jaime Lannister after he was seen falling into the depths of the water.
This new episode will also likely follow the travels of Jon Snow as he tries to keep the world safe from the impending White Walker attack.
While we wait to see how this next episode plays out, let’s take a look back at the season so far.
Dany’s Path to the Throne
Daenerys has been going after the Iron Throne since the show began. The only problem is that lately, she hasn’t been very successful.
Just before Danyย left for Westeros, her trusted adviser Jorahย Mormontย revealed that he had grey scale. Despite her issues trusting him, this was still a big loss for the queen. However, little does she know, Jorahย has been cured by Samwellย Tarlyย and is currently on his way to find her.ย
Once Danyย and her armies left for Westeros, things got rough in a hurry. Most of her ships were taken down by Euronย Greyjoy in a surprise attack at sea. The rest of her fleet was burned after her Unsullied troops were tricked into being trapped at Casterlyย Rock.
Basically, The Loot Train Attack was Dany’sย first real victory against Cersei, and she will be looking to compound on that success as the season continues.ย
Jon Snow
After being crowned King in the North, Jon Snow was informed that Daenerysย Targaryen wanted an audience with him, and that her castle sat on a mountain of dragonglass. As you probably know, that’s the one substance that can succeed in killing White Walkers.
Jon made his way down to Dany, in the hopes that he could convince her that the White Walker threat was real, and that they could band together and fight it. Unfortunately, Danyย has her sights set too narrowly on the throne.
In the episodes since Jon and Danyย met, the former has become an adviser of sorts. Daenerysย finally trusts his opinions, and she has allowed him to mine the dragonglassย that sleeps beneath her towers.
Look for Jon to leave Dany’s side this week, as he looks to continue preparing for war against the Night King.
Eastwatch
Many have been wondering what exactly ‘Eastwatch’ is, and why an entire episode is named after it.ย
Well, the term is actually a name for an important castle, and it will likely play a vital role in Jon Snow’s war.ย
Eastwatchย By The Sea is one of the castles along the northern wall. Much like Castle Black, it acts as a protective hub for everything to the south.ย
Eastwatchย is located near the end of the wall, by the sea, and it’s the closest castle to Hardhome.
If you recall, Jon sent Tormundย Giantsbane and his wilding army to Eastwatchย to protect it. This episode title likely means that we’ll see a battle, or a major reunion, take place at the seaside castle.
