On Tuesday, Netflix announced that the longest-serving late night host in US TV history would be hosting a new series for the streaming service in 2018.

The six-episode series, which doesn’t yet have a name, will take a slightly different approach to the classic late night format. Letterman will hold a long-form conversation with an esteemed guest in each episode, incorporating the interactive humor that made him so successful in the past.

Letterman will also take the guests to locations away from the studio during the conversations.

“I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix,” Letterman said in a statement. “Here’s what I have learned, if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely.”

“Just meeting David Letterman was a thrill; imagine how exciting it is for me to announce that we will be working together,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. “David Letterman is a true television icon, and I can’t wait to see him out in the wild, out from behind the desk and interviewing the people he finds most interesting. We’ll have to see if he keeps the beard.”

The series is set to debut sometime in 2018, but there is no word as to exactly when.
