McDonald’s Japan is teaming up with Pokémon in order to release new McFlurry flavors, but some of the options don’t exactly sound appetizing.
The world’s largest fast food chain is teaming up with the Pokémon franchise in conjunction with the upcoming film Pokémon the Movie 20: I Choose You! for the new McFlurrys. To promote the film, McDonald’s is creating Pokémon-themed McFlurrys but the flavor options are quite bizarre.

While one might expect McDonald’s to go with a vanilla McFlurry for Pikachu or a blue bubblegum for Squirtle, the restaurant opted for less popular choices. McDonald’s is offering vegetable-flavor McFlurrys that do not sound like tasty treats.
Check out the flavor options below:
- Bulbasaur is a broccoli-inspired flavor
- Gengar is a purple potato flavor
- Charmander is a habanero pepper flavor
- Pikachu is a banana and chocolate flavor
- Squirtle is a soda-flavored ice cream
- Jigglypuff is a white peach flavor
Just by looking through these options, it’s safe to say that the Pikachu, Squirtle, and Jigglypuff McFlurrys will probably have a more pleasant taste.
After the announcement was made the McDonald’s Japan was going to be getting Pokémon-themed McFlurrys, the reaction on social media was rather mixed.
While there were several options that were non-traditional ice cream flavors, the least popular choice seems to be the broccoli-flavored Bulbasaur McFlurry.
…Broccoli flavored? Why you gotta beat a Bulbasaur down like that, @Mcdonalds? https://t.co/vZ8feqWoU1

Other social media users didn’t think that the desserts were aesthetically pleasing. Even though the Pikachu McFlurry flavors might have been more appetizing, one Twitter user couldn’t get over the way it looked.

Only one of the flavors will be actually sold in McDonald’s stores to promote the Pokémon movie, which was released on July 6 in limited theaters.
