Liz Kong and Max Lowenstein are traveling acroyoga instructors and registered dieticians based out of Dallas. They’ve been acroyoga partners for over three years, and romantic partners for almost just as long.

With almost 100K followers on Instagram (@maxandlizacro), this dynamic duo is taking the Internet by storm when it comes to their acroyoga poses — and just last year, they added sexy partner stretches to the mix.

When Max sustained a back injury last year, he and Liz started adding stretching to their acroyoga routine. The couple began sharing their stretching videos on Instagram.

Some members of the acroyoga community were disturbed by Max and Liz’s videos, especially when they involved intimate touching and resembled some pretty sexual positions.

While some may see Max and Liz’s work as overly sexual, Max says that partner stretching is more than what you see at face value.

“While I am in a long-term monogamous relationship with my girlfriend, the reason we do acroyoga is because we see its healing potential,” he told Cosmopolitan. “That intention comes through when we’re teaching in person, but online, people don’t see things the way they are.”

When Liz and I first met over 3 years ago, we started partner stretching before we began our acroyoga sessions. Even though I had been doing yoga for a while, my hamstrings and hips couldn’t support l-basing for too long. And actually she was the one stretching me! When we told of our friends what we did, they laughed at us, and even some of our original teachers couldn’t hold in their laughter. But we didn’t care because it worked for us so we continued to do it. Eventually my legs got strong and flexible enough so we stopped. Now as we are getting into partner stretching again we can’t help but smile at how this has come full circle for us ? Hopefully soon we will film those original stretches for you! ??? In this standing splits partner stretch, make sure you square the hips by internally rotating the top leg, and you can even pull up on the top leg to give your partner more length. Create a barrier with your legs so your partner doesn’t fall over. Make sure you are always communicating and respecting your partner ❤️ . . . #partneryoga #partnerstretch #couplesyoga #getflexy #spinehealth #healthybody #fitstagram #yogavideo #fitnessvideo #onebreathatatime #yogastrong #instayogi #dailypractice #yogilife #gethealthy #workout #beachbody #instafit #beginneryoga #dowhatyoulove #peaceloveyoga #yogalover #vegans #sexyyoga #intimateyoga #crazysexyyoga #whatveganslooklike #friendshipgoals #raiseyourvibration #boyfriend

Still the claims that acroyoga and partner stretching are sexual in nature might not be completely off-base; after all, it does require skimpy clothing (since baggy clothes can conceal the joints and alignment).

Plus, it requires two bodies coming close together, and oftentimes leverage and force are needed to complete the stretch.

While Max and Liz don’t deny the sexual side to acroyoga and partner stretching, they say they’re more interested in the non-sexual benefits. According to Max, partner stretching allows your body to go deeper into a stretch rather than solo stretching would. A partner can gently push your body into a bit of discomfort in order to ultimately increase your range of motion. Just look at all the amazing poses Max and Liz have been able to achieve!

Our friends over at @liquidoactive asked us an interesting question we wanted to share our answer to – what does it mean to live a bold, fearless and free life? When Max and I started our yoga/acroyoga/life journey together over 3 years ago, we had no idea how it would all pan out – I was working as a clinical dietitian in a hospital and he was just starting grad school for his Masters in clinical nutrition. Throughout the years, we learned and grew together in hopes to wrap our dreams of traveling the world and sharing our passions with others. As soon as Max graduated last year, we started traveling. I left my full time job to pursue something I’ve always believed in – our partnership, support, and love we have for each other ❤ and that everything we have manifested has turned into something beautiful and expansive. We’ve never looked back. Everything that has happened has happened for a reason, and for the first time in my life, I feel completely free. Nourish your passions, feed your soul, and continue shining bright ? What does living a bold, fearless and free life mean to you?
