While promoting her new film, The Shallows, in a video that aired in Australia this week, actress Blake Lively took a stand for moms everywhere when she encouraged people to stop focusing on the idea of a "post-baby body."

Lively, who gave birth to her first child with husband Ryan Reynolds last year, appeared in the clip on Sunrise Australia, where she revealed the reason she doesn't want people talking about women's figures after giving birth.

"It's so unfair. It's so celebrated: 'This is what someone looks like after having a baby.' And I think a woman's body after having a baby is pretty amazing," said Lively, who began filming The Shallows eight months after giving birth and noted that her role in the film was "as much a physical challenge [as] it was an acting challenge."

Lively added that women should be celebrated for actually giving birth, not for how their body looks afterwards.

"You don't have to have be Victoria's-Secret–ready right away. You've just done the most incredible miracle that life has to offer," the actress explained, alluding to the fact that many models have given birth just months before walking in the famed Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, including Heidi Klum, who walked in the show just five weeks after having a baby.

"You gave birth to a human being," she added. "I would really like to see that celebrated."

Lively is currently pregnant with her and Reynolds' second child.
