The days of Bed, Bath & Beyond locations being seemingly everywhere are numbered. The chain, which specializes in home goods, will be closing 40 locations nationwide in the first half of the year. Some of the locations have already been closed and others on the list "no longer meet the standards our customers expect from us," the company said.

"We're continually evolving to serve our loyal Bed Bath & Beyond customers better — whether they come to us at one of our 900+ stores or are one of the millions who shop with us online each year," a spokesperson told PEOPLE. "We've just given over 150 of our most popular stores a multi-million dollar update and are continually investing in our stores and digital platform to give customers an even better experience however they choose to shop with us."

During a Jan. 8 quarterly earnings call, Bed, Bath & Beyond executives said they will close 60 stores, following the 14 closed in late 2019, reports USA Today. As of Nov. 30, the company had 981 Bed, Bath & Beyond locations in the U.S. and Canada. The company also has 278 World Market, Cost Plus World Market or Cost Plus stores, 126 buybuy Baby stores, 81 Christmas Tree Shops and 55 Harmon, Face Values or Harmon Face Values stores.

Bed, Bath & Beyond is also famous for its 20% off coupons. During the earnings call, new CEO Mark Tritton said they exploring new ways to keep the coupon alive.

"We know that the coupon is part of our heritage and our DNA, and we want to maintain that in our mix as part of our tools that we can reach out to customers with," he explained. "But we do see that there's an opportunity to readjust our value proposition directly with the customer."
