NFL Player Trevor Davis Arrested for Making Bomb Joke at Airport

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Trevor Davis was reportedly arrested Sunday while checking in at the Los Angeles International Airport after making a bomb joke. While being asked security questions, he reportedly told an attendant at the Hawaiian Airlines ticket counter that he had smuggled in a bomb.

LAX public information officer Robert Pedregon reportedly told CNN that Davis "was at the Hawaiian Airlines counter with a female companion Sunday morning answering a series of typical questions asked of all travelers" when he made the "joke."

Davis and the companion were asked if they had any knives or explosives. At that point, Davis reportedly turned to his companion and said to her, "Yes, did you pack the explosives?"

TMZ reports that the woman said "no" and Davis said he was "just kidding."

Airline employees called police and Davis was arrested, booked and released on $15,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on May 3. His companion was not charged.

"The Packers are aware of the matter involving Trevor Davis," the team said in a statement. "We are in the process of gathering more information and will refrain from making any further comment as it is an ongoing legal matter."

Davis, 24, was a fifth-round pick by the Packers in the 2016 NFL draft. In two seasons, he's caught eight passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. In 2017, he primarily served as a punt and kick returner, averaging 12 yards per punt return and 22.8 yards per kickoff.

It's been a busy offseason for NFL players; last week, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was involved in a car accident with a dump truck in Atlanta, Georgia. He was reportedly driving his matte black Ferrari F12 in Atlanta, where he lives, when the collision occurred on Thursday afternoon.

Neither party filed a police report.

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Derrick Mason was indicted on domestic assault charges in March stemming from an October 2017 incident when a woman he was dating told authorities he grabbed hold of her neck, slapped her and hit her in the stomach.

The Wrap reports that in December 2017 she contradicted those claims in a preliminary court hearing. Initially, Mason was charged with felony aggravated assault involving strangulation, but that was reduced to the misdemeanor assault charge, which he was indicted on in March.

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Zay Jones was arrested after a naked altercation in Los Angeles in March. The incident involved his brother, fellow NFL player Cayleb Jones, and smashing an apartment window while naked. He was arrested for felony damage to property and had to be hospitalized for cuts he sustained on his foot — but will not be charged. The Los Angeles County District Attorney claims there was insufficient evidence to push charges forward.

In another NFL-related incident, former Miami Dolphins player Jonathan Martin was arrested in February after sharing a photo on his Instagram page that led police to believe he was making threats against his former prep school, Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles.

Martin was detained and the school was closed for the day. Students and faculty were instructed to stay away for their own safety.

Martin has not been formally charged with any crime and is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. The investigation is ongoing.
