You asked for it, designers did it: they finally created items you could buy straight off the runway. Most designers during NYFW Fall 2016 decided to focus on transitional, buy-now-wear-now pieces, and Coach even sold out of their buy-runway-now bags before the week was over!
Look for Tom Ford and Burberry to be among some of the ones to continue this trend as fashion month takes us across the pond.
Rebecca Minkoff is the one that started it all when she took to social media to call out her #seebuywear campaign, where you could buy most of her show straight off the runway. Kate Bosworth was even wearing a dress in the front row! We LOVE how Minkoff has been at the forefront of the intersection of fashion and technology; her technology collaborations have made many a smartphone or tablet beautiful and her social media savviness continues to wow us. Craving a bag right from her runway? No problem -- you can shop it now!
There are 11 pieces that walked down Michael Kors celebrity-studded runway up for grabs right now, including a studded Mary Jane and a totally chic feather beaded top and skirt. But we really love being able to get our hands on this animal print Kors handbag -- MK believes animal print is a neutral, and we have to agree. Whatever you’re looking for, this Michael Kors Collection is a great tease, with plenty of items to keep you hooked until the full fall collection appears later this year.
DVF’s show was riddled with all the usual superstar models, such as Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss and Lily Aldridge, and her usual ‘70s inspiration. The leader of the CFDA (and perhaps the free fashion world?!) noted that she was going to look into changing fashion shows so that they fit more of a modern designer’s needs; she herself put one of the 5 items from her immediate collection on "It Girl" Gigi Hadid which almost guarantees it’ll sell out.
It was announced at the end of 2015 that Banana Republic would also hop on the bandwagon of insta-fashion -- fast fashion is so passe, y’all, and true to promise it debuted five key pieces as a Fall “First Look” during its presentation this month. All are easy transitional pieces that are seasonless and can be mixed in with everything from simple summer sandals to cardigans. With pieces ranging from sizes 0-16, there’s definitely something for everyone to add to their wardrobes right now.
Tory Burch has gone from Palm Beach princess to a fashion empress worth 1 billion dollars, and that wasn’t by not being ahead of the curve when it comes to technology. She cleverly interspersed a few of her Tory Sport pieces throughout her fall runway show, including athletic-inspired wear -- the white pair of tennis pants sold out almost immediately! We’re partial to this bomber jacket which is a great year-round transitional piece, including when paired with her ‘70s-inspired show.
