With the announcement this year that Ellen DeGeneres is mounting a return to stand-up by filming her first special in several years for Netflix, a new light is turned to the quality of stand-up comedy the streaming juggernaut stamps their name to.
In reality, though, Netflix has been putting a huge emphasis on stand-up comedy for a long time.

From the very first one, Bill Burr’s You People Are All the Same way back in 2012, to the recent special from Sarah Silverman, A Speck of Dust, Netflix has given comedians from all levels of notoriety the opportunity to pour our their creativity without the stiffling restrictions they get from cable TV networks.
That commitment has paid off too.
Recently, Netflix launched two new specials from Dave Chappelle that have been massively successful. Dubbed the Dave Chappelle: Collection 1, it has become the most watched Netflix comedy special of all-time.
The hits just keep on coming too, as next month Netflix will drop a small handful of new comedy specials that are certain to have fans rolling on the floor in laughter.

Jerry Before Seinfeld
Premiere Date: Septemberย 19th
Jerry Seinfeld is most well-known for his iconic sitcom, Seinfeld. Spanning 180 episodes over nine seasons, the 1990s series has already sealed it’s place as one of the greatest TVย shows of all-time.
The series focused on Seinfeld and his friends George Costanzaย (played by Jason Alexander) and Elaine Benes (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus), as well as hisย neighbor across the hall Cosmo Kramer (played by Michael Richards). Every episode was a small window into the hilariouslyย neurotic lives the four of them led.
Before the show, and afterward for that matter, Jerry Seinfeld stands atop a legacy of his world-class stand-up comedy.ย Next month, Seinfeld returns to the stage in his specialย Jerry Before Seinfeld which sees the comedian get back to his roots.
Jeff Dunham: Relative Disaster
Premiere Date: September 12th
Jeff Dunhamย emerged on the comedy scene a few decades ago, and has continued climbing to the top with unique brand of ventriloquist humor ever since.
Not content with using just one dummy to build his show around, Dunhamย has close to a dozen different puppets that he uses in his stage show.
To date, Dunhamย has six major comedy special: Arguing with Myself,ย Spark of Insanity,ย Jeff Dunham’s Very Special Christmas Special,ย Controlled Chaos, Minding the Monstersย and All Over the Map.
Next month, he addsย Relative Disaster to that already impressive list. Make sure to queue this up when it drops.
Marc Maron: Too Real
Premiere Date: September 5th
Marc Maronย is the host ofย WTFย Podcast, which is maybe the most popular comedyย podcastย around. He’s branched out and interviewed high-profile guests beyond just other comedians, however, even once havingย former President Barackย Obamaย on.
He also spent four seasons on his own critically acclaimedย IFC show, Maron, which just had its series finale last year. You can stream that entire series on Netflixย while you wait for him to drop Too Real next month.
Additionally, Maron’sย last special, Thinkyย Pain, is also available to stream on Netflix, and if that’s still not enough Marc Maronย for you, he’s featured in the streaming giant’s new hit series GLOW, as well.
