With a runtime just shy of 110 minutes, Disney’s Zootopia stands as one of the year’s biggest hits as it reeled in audiences from around the world. But, for some picky viewers, it appears that the film may be a bit too long for their tastes. Perhaps to appease those busy fans, Disney has just released a shortened version of the film in a video entitled, “Zootopia As Told By Emoji.” And, yes, the clip is exactly what you’d expect it to be.
Using some innovative animation and familiar emoticons, Disney replicates Zootopia‘s major plot points in this hilarious video. The clip uses a bunny emoji to represent Judy Hopps and a fox emoji for Nick Wilde, of course. At the beginning, Judy can be seen texting two messages which read, “Welcome to Zootopia… / Where anyone can be anything!” However, just as fans saw in the film, Judy finds herself facing pretty steep challenges with her career as her fellow police officers believe she’s unfit to be a cop. But, when a local otter goes missing – as explained in the video by an iPhone Otter Alert – Judy is able to use her detective skills to solve the case with her unwilling partner, Nick.

The emoji-filled video is packed with funny references and cute animations which do a pretty great job of retelling Zootopia in 3:50 minutes. For instance, Officer Clawhauser is often seen sending donut emojis, referencing the fluffy cheetah’s notorious sweet-tooth. And the video also adopts the iPhone ‘typing’ bubbles to indicate how slowly Raymond Persi, a sloth, is in delivering information to Judy for her case.
Fans have already started to share the clip on social media, raving over the clip’s creative touches. So far, fans seem to agree that one of the best scenes is when Judy runs into Mr. Manchas, a black jaguar who goes is forced to turn feral. When Judy and Nick visit the animal’s contact information, the predator’s profile photo goes crazy and wrecks the phone’s screen in an attempt to delete the other two’s emojis. However, Judy and Nick are able to escape by selecting the “Block this Caller” function before any permanent damage can be done.
Zootopia hit theaters earlier this year and surprised many with its phenomenal success. So far, the animated feature has grossed over $1 billion and stands as the second highest-earning film of 2016 so far.
