The crew of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower carrier had an unexpected turn of events while carrying out their ISIS airstrikes. Luckily, it was a positive turn of events.
A third class petty officer for Carrier Air Wing 3 went to the medical clinic complaining of stomach pains. As it turns out, she was pregnant and about to deliver. Neither she nor her command knew that she was pregnant, otherwise she would have been given operational command and not deployed.

Nine hours later, in the early hours of September 11th, a bouncing baby girl weighing 7 pounds was born.
“Both the mother and the baby are healthy and are doing well,” 5th Fleet spokesman Cmdr. Bill Urban said of the family. “As the baby was born at sea aboard an operational unit, the main focus for the U.S. Navy, the ship and its crew is the safety and well-being of the baby and the mother.”
After the little girl was born, the ship sent out for diapers, formula and an incubator to care for her. So, this little girl was born, she got to spend her first hours on a ship that was currently at war. However, due to the nature of the circumstance, she and her mom were soon airlifted to Bahrain with a medical escort.
Luckily for the mother, the ship had just the right medical team to handle a birth at sea. As it turns out, both the family practitioner and a great number of personnel in the medical department were trained to deliver and care for newborns.
