When it comes to the Internet, most people seem to have a thing for cute, little animals. To cat memes and beyond, people can’t help but swoon over cuddly creatures, and it seems that their love even extends to those less-than-fortunate pets who aren’t your everyday breed of adorable. With The World’s Ugliest Dog Contest having wrapped its 28th year, people are already cooing or eww-ing at this year’s winner.
At age 17, SweePee Rambo has finally taken home the coveted title of World’s Ugliest Dog after having competed in the contest for the past three years. Weighing in at 4 pounds, the Chihuahua/Chinese Crested mix is freckled, twitchy, and partially blind. However, should you hear Rambo’s owner fawn on about his beloved pet, it just shows that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.

Owner Jason Wurtz loves his dog and has never let Rambo’s strange appearance hold either of them back. Wurtz, who was gifted the dog by his ex-wife, championed Rambo and took possession of her when the couple split. Believe it or not, the wife’s hesitancy in keeping the dog was because of its ugly looks. In the years since, Wurtz and Rambo have become best friends with the owner telling TODAY, “I’ve had girlfriends over the years and they were jealous of her and like I told them, she was here when you came and she’ll be here when you leave, that’s the best friend I have.”
Held in Petaluma, California, the contest was by no means an easy win for SweePee as dozens of dogs from around the world came to compete. Dogs such as Himisaboo also wowed the crowd as the dog hit the stage while sporting a traditionally Trump comb-over. The dog’s owner, Heather Wilson, was no doubt inspired by the current political climate as she said, “We usually spike his hair but one year somebody was like he has a Donald Trump comb-over!”
Congratulations SweePee Rambo! You keep on doing you!
