It is easy to forget that Actor Robert Downey Jr. has another franchise in addition to his popular portrayal of Marvel’s Iron Man.

That is most likely due to the project being on the backburner since 2011. That was the year the Guy Ritchie Directed Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows hit theatres, but the wait for a new entry in the franchise might not be as long as you’d expect.

In an interview with Collider, Producer Joel Silver hinted that the film might indeed start shooting later this year.

“It looks like it could happen this fall. Downey said he wants to do it. He’s gotta launch into another Avengers movie, right after the New Year, so we’re trying to get it done. We have a script that we like. Jude [Law] is available and Downey is available, and we’re hoping we can get it done. If it works, great. If not, we’ll do it another time. But, it looks like it could happen now.”

That Avengers movie is Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 and 2, which will be filming back to back. It’s a tight schedule, as Infinity War begins filming in November, but Downey Jr. doesn’t need to be there until early next year. Law has availability during that same timeframe, and Ritchie doesn’t have a new project lined up yet, so the window is there.

There will be life after Iron Man for the fan favorite actor, and Silver thinks Holmes could be a major part of that.

“I hope [it’s not the last one]. I don’t think so. How many Bond films have they made? As long as there’s a character, we can work with it. It’s not an end story. We can keep going, as long as people want to do it. It’s [the actor’s] call. They have to say, ‘Okay, I’m ready to go.’ I read about them making another Bad Boys. If they want to do it, then you try to get it done.”
