One helicopter tour company, Paradise Helicopters, captured footage of a remarkable scene that put the marvels of mother nature on full display. Camerman Mick Kalber managed to film an erupting volcano in Hawaii that appeared to make a familiar image in the lava. During the ongoing eruption, Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano recently formed a giant smiley face in the bubbling lava of a crater that reaches depths of more than 80 feet.
For the first time since 2013, the lava from the Hawaiian volcano’s Pu’u O’o crater reached all the way to the Pacific ocean. The current lava flow began on May 24 and flows over six miles to reach the ocean.

The Kilauea volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, and has been continuously erupting since 1983, according to the United States Geological Survey.
Hikers in the area of the volcano have been able to get up an up close and personal look at the volcano and the lava traveling towards the ocean. One woman tweeted a video of the breathtaking scene with the caption: “Today was all about getting to the #kilauea lava flow as it reaches the ocean. 14km round trip 100+degree heat.”
