Reality shows that attempt to show a physical transformation over an extended period of time can be a tricky business, because of the transformation never happens, you’re not left with much of a show. On the other hand, if the transformation is successful, the results must be obscured from the public while the show is airing as to not spoil what the end result of the journey is.
“Mama” June Thompson was one of the stars of the reality show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, which focused on how she trained her daughter to become a beauty queen. The show ended in controversy when June began dating a registered sex offender, causing her to back out of the spotlight for some time. June is back with the show Mama June: From Not to Hot, which chronicles her attempts to lose weight and reinvent her identity.

Many viewers of last night’s series premiere noticed that in some sequences, it looked like Mama June was wearing a fat suit and prosthetics on her face to appear fat, sparking controversy that either June had either lost most of the weight before the show started or that these segments were taped after the show had ended.
