When people think of Kristen Bell, the thought of a perky, bubbly blonde with a big smile comes to mind. And for the most part, that is they kind of great personality Bell has. However, she recently opened up about how she has struggled with depression, and explained why she chose to do it.
“I was talking with my husband, and it occurred to me that I do appear to be very bubbly and positive,” Bell explained. “I’ve never really shared what got me there and why I’m that way or the things that I’ve worked through. And I felt it was sort of a social responsibility I had โ to not just appear to be so positive and optimistic.”

As it turns out, the Bad Moms star, has had issues in the past with depression, anxiety and co-dependency. But as a result of facing these difficulties, she was able to come out on top and start to have a positive outlook on life.
“I’m extremely co-dependent,” she admitted. “I shatter a little bit when I think people don’t like me. That’s part of why I lead with kindness and I compensate by being very bubbly all the time, because it really hurts my feelings when I know I’m not liked. And I know that’s not very healthy, and I fight it all the time.”
Despite her need to feel liked, when she opened up about her depression, she says that at the time, she didn’t care what people thought about her. She didn’t care if it had an effect on her career. She just wanted to share her experiences in hopes that it would help others through similar issues.
“I just wanted other people to know there are options out there if they feel a sense of depression or anxiety,” she said.
