Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo’s Gulfstream G200 plane was forced to make a crash landing at El Prat Airport in Barcelona.

The incident took place on Monday night, but the superstar athlete was not on the plane. Miraculously no one was seriously hurt when the plane crashed; however, the pilot was taken to the hospital for very minor injuries.

After the airplane’s landing gear broke upon impact with the runway, emergency services were called into action. One of the runways at El Prat was shut down for a brief period of time after the crash, according to The Mirror.

31-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo purchased the Gulfstream G200 last year for almost $20 million, and regularly rents it out to private clients.

A source close to Ronaldo stated, “The plane is normally rented by companies and it was in use by one of them.” The source continued, “Christiano Ronaldo, his family or friends were not on the plane. The incident had no major consequences.”

Ronaldo was with his Real Madrid with his teammates in Germany as they prepare for the Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund.

While this was an extremely scary moment for the pilot and the eyewitnesses, thankfully no one was hurt in what could have been a fatal incident.
