Robby Heil, a Novi High School football water boy with Down Syndrome, fulfilled his dreams of scoring a touchdown.

Robby doesn’t often get a chance to suit up, but after the team discovered his mother has advanced cancer they organized something special for him. Team head coach Jeff Burnside sent Robby onto the field, while his mother Debbie stood on the sidelines snapping pictures, like she always does.

She had no idea what the team, and her son, had in store for her. When she saw the magical moment she instantly broke down in tears.

“This team has been instrumental in helping me get him to practice while I’m at chemo,” said Debbie. “It takes a village to raise my son and this village has really been outstanding.”

Robby is the type of person who always has a smile on his face, but when he finally got to put on a helmet and uniform and join his teammates on the field, his smile transformed into an ear-to-ear grin.

“No matter how bad a day he’s having, it’s a smile from ear to ear and the opportunity to put that helmet on tonight, it brought tears to my eyes tonight and tears all over the place,” said Burnside.

This touchdown has the potential of being the best one in football history. Awesome job, Robby!
