If there is one thing that Breaking Bad creator, Vince Gilligan has proven it’s that he is capable of turning anyone into a bad guy. But since the AMC show ended, Gilligan has mostly stayed within the universe he created in the series while working on the spin-off Better Call Saul – until now.

Consequence of Sound recently reported that Gilligan’s new project will tackle the life of cult leader Jim Jones. The show Raven will air on HBO and focus round the man that lead a group of followers to commit suicide back in 1978, only after killing Congressman Leo Ryan.

The events of the story, according to Deadline, will follow the history of Peoples Temple from the beginning to the tragic end. Though the overall story will focus on Jones, there will also be stories that look at his followers and how they came to give up so much for one man.

Gilligan will write the show, as well as be an executive producer. He is also joined by Breaking Bad director and executive producer Michelle MacLaren. Actress Octavia Spencer will also be joining the team as an executive producer, though there is no news about whether she will be acting in the show or not.

All in all, it will be interesting to see what Gilligan – the man who turned a science teacher into the drug dealer the world loved to hate – will do with a man like Jim Jones.
