Ben Affleck has been through a lot lately, with the constant will-they-won’t-they theme of his relationship with Jennifer Garner, but we never expected this announcement from the Batman vs. Superman actor.
On Tuesday Affleck shared in a Facebook post that he was recently in rehab for a stint. Get the details in the following slides.

In the statement, he said the rehab was for alcohol addiction and that he had been struggling with it for some time.
“I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront,” he wrote. “I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I’m lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.”
This isn’t Affleck’s first stint in rehab, as he was previously admitted for unspecified reasons in 2001.
“I went to rehab for being 29 and partying too much and not having a lot of boundaries and to clear my head and try to get some idea of who I wanted to be,” Affleck said in a 2012 The Hollywood Reporter cover story. “It was more a ‘let me get myself straight,’ before it became a rite of passage.”
This time, Affleck directly addressed his reason for going into rehab.
Affleck and his wife, Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children, announced their separation in 2015 but have yet to finalize a divorce. He also recently starred in the film Live By Night which was poorly received by critics.

In the statement on his Facebook page, Affleck refers to his rehab experience as the “first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.” We hope that the rest of his recovery goes smoothly and he accomplishes all he set out to in tackling this struggle head on.
The only remaining question mark? What impact this new revelation and healing process will have on his relationship with Garner.
