Arnold Palmer, who was a seven-time major winner and responsible for bringing golf to the masses passed away Sunday at the age of 87, according to Golfweek.
According to Golfweek, no one did more to popularize the sport than Palmer. In fact, he was often called “The King” of golf.

On Sept. 12, 2012, Palmer accepted the Congressional Gold Medal. He was the sixth athlete to accept this honor. He also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, making him one of a select few to receive both of the highest honors a civilian can be awarded.
Palmer is survived by his second wife, Kit, daughters Amy Saunders and Peggy Wears, six grandchildren, including Sam Saunders, who plays on the PGA Tour.
